It was a shock to see this. I'd been anticipating another happy, cheeky grin. What sorrow does he carry in his heart? I'm reminded of that little girl you photographed in the village in India.
Lesley, I'd like to think it wasn't so much sorrow as a kind of curiosity, perhaps tempered by a degree of melancholy. But who knows what he was feeling? We had no language in common, so I have to let the photo speak for him.
Watercats, my guess would be elements of both. But what kind of wisdom does a life as hard as his confer?
