Kausani, in the Kumaon region of Uttaranchal (now known as Uttarakhand), is famous for its views of the Himalaya. But the view in the other direction, from the far side of the ridge on which Kausani sits, has its own charm.

I love the textured look of this photo. It looks like an oil painting, or even a tapestry.
Thanks Anne-Marie. It was a good lesson in black-and-white conversion. I had to rely on textures and tonalities to convey depth; this was one case where selective (i.e. shallow) depth of field wouldn't have worked, and the colours weren't great.
