Giraffe, South Luangwa NP, Zambia

One of the first giraffes I saw at South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, in May 2007.

What beautiful eyes! The shading on the forehead and down the nose looks, somehow, as if a breeze is ruffling it ... The creature is so gawky it's adorable;)

True about those beautiful eyes. Such an off-balanced visage. But if I imagine a mouth full of giraffe spit and leaves bunched up there in that puffy cheek, it makes me glad.

Barbara, gawky's such an apt word. They're such a strange combination of the ungainly and graceful.

Robin Andrea, it makes me glad, too.

They remind me of moose. So ugly they are beautiful. Probably the huge dark eyes. Built on such an enormous scale, endearing and dangerous together.

Well summed up, Zhoen. I hadn't thought to compare them to moose, but yes, I agree.
