The sound of surf on a shingle/sand beach ...

Evening along the coast between Lake Ferry and Cape Palliser.

How beautiful, and yes, I can hear it really clearly!

I've been contemplating lately that paradox of losing oneself to find oneself and this photo gives a landscape for that. It is most intriguing, that place where the outgoing rush meets the incoming wave. Wow. I'm going to be thinking about this one all day! It is stunning ...

And look ... there's the South Island.

What a wonderful couple of photos. You really captured the feel of this evening so well. The colours are spot on.

RR, I love the sound. When I remember it, I miss it.

Barbara, I love it when one of my photographs makes people think. Thanks! :^)

Anne-Marie, thanks :^) Those colours certainly captivated everyone. Such a privilege to be able to enjoy it in such excellent company.

Zhoen, it was quite an undertow. I wasn't one of the brave ones who ventured in, but apparently there was a narrow strip where the undertow and the incoming surf made it very difficult to stand, but only a metre or so further out the turbulence disappeared.
