Cricket at Urgam

Cricket in the Indian HimalayaNot because it's a great photo, just because it's so characteristically Indian. A hunk of wood, a ball, three sticks and the kids are at it. No wonder the Indian team's so good. This was at Urgam, a little village high in the Uttaranchal Himalaya.

Do the girls play?

RR, I honestly don't recall. Certainly, it was mostly boys, but I don't remember if I saw girls playing as well.

Tut tut!
A delightful photograph all the same. It could be ballet.

This looks like an Indian variation of that great New Zealand game, BYC [back yard cricket].

Not much green on that pitch ...

Anne-Marie, it could be the other way round — maybe NZ BYC's a variation on this great Indian game!
(Let's hope NZ maintains its good start to the current test against India. I'm not holding my breath, though.)
