Mother and child, Udaipur, Rajasthan

After chatting for a while, I asked if I might photograph her. She seemed pleased; her son by that time was utterly bored.

She looks like a lovely person. Such a warm smile. And pretty clothes! You know, I wish I could wear clothes like that - but alas, I'm far too Anglo-Saxon.

Love the background of this photo, too.

And I am fascinated with all the detail around, the postures of the two men on the left, reflected in the puddle. The ornate balcony, the seedy signs, the pigeons, the boy watching them, the rugs on the rail, the unidentifiable thing next to the bench.

Anne-Marie, she seemed typical of the people I met in Udaipur — welcoming and friendly. Perhaps surprising for such a popular tourist destination, but I guess it was just a few famous places where the hassling was unrelenting.

Watercats, the wee fella certainly seemed well looked after.

Zhoen, yes, I like the way so much is going on. I was lucky the woman and her son were wearing such bright clothing, emphasising the distinction between them and the background.
