Kahikatea at the Pohangina wetlands

Kahikatea reflection

The tree trunk is the lower part of a small kahikatea; the shiny-leafed shrub to the right is a Coprosma.

hi Pete, I am here via Zhoen and I am overwhelmed by the beauty and detail of your photographs. How do you get blogger to reproduce them in their real size? Mine always seem to get horribly squished!

Thanks Rosie :^) To get photos posted at their actual size, you have to edit the html code for the photo. Upload the photo, choosing "None" for the alignment and "large" for the size. When you're back in the "edit post" window, click on the "Edit HTML" tab, and right at the top you'll find a bunch of gobbledygook containing "width: 400px; height: 267px" (the figures might differ but that's irrelevant). Delete that code. Then, a little lower down, you'll find "s400/". Delete that, too. The photo should now appear at its actual dimensions (it might take a few seconds to reload — longer if you're on dial-up).

If you want to modify your blog to a greater extent than Blogger Layout>Page Elements allows, I recommend browsing Vin's blog. It's messy, but a great source of information.

I enjoy your ability to look at - not just the landscape - through you camera lens, but the detail in that landscape. This photo is a perfect example of that.

I'd love to be sitting beside that pond, relaxing in the sunshine, right now.

Thanks, Anne-Marie. I find it interesting how details can often convey the feel of a place just as well as, and in some cases better than, the grand view (which I find particularly difficult). As for relaxing over there, I was tempted today to bike over to the wetlands and do just that.

Great colors, and sharpness. I also liked the reflection - the water is not absolutely still making the reflection a little blurred, which is great. But I think that something is missing from the composition... maybe a beautiful butterfly on the tree :)

Greg, I agree about the slight imperfection of the reflection; a perfect reflection wouldn't have worked. Less sure about the idea of a butterly (a brightly coloured element?). In any case it wasn't there and I'd never photoshop one in.

Dear god no! I didn't mean to photoshop it in :)

Glad we agree on that one, Greg :^)
