Storm bird

In the gales we've been having, small birds must find life difficult. I was surprised to see this piwakawaka managing surprisingly well. Not sure what the gunk on its wing was, but it didn't seem to impede the bird's flight.

Kia ora Pete,
His ruffled appearance nonwithstanding, the gunk on his wing seems secondary to the firm grip he seems to have on that branch. A tough customer.

Tough customer indeed! Looks like this one has been through quite a tempest.

I hope this little one has a cosy place to stay warm on this cold and frosty morning!

Kia ora Robb. Yes, you're right — these little birds seem to be tougher and more resilient than they appear.

Barbara, it seemed to be quite unperturbed, and happily snatched up and ate a honey bee which was probably more affected by the weather than was the piwakawaka.

Lisa, they come equipped with down jackets ;-)
