Christmas Day 2014, Ngamoko Range

The tarn at the top of Knights Track on Christmas Day. Those streaks and spots in the sky (if you look closely) are snowgrass leaves and other detritus. The wind was fierce and the rain caught me shortly before I reached Toka Biv.

Oh, I am such a sucker for black and white photography! This composition is beautiful. My eye travels the distance, back and forth, from that reflecting pool across and up the elevation. Nicely, nicely done!

Thank you, Barbara :-)

Kia ora Pete,
The b&w certainly adds to the mood you describe. As if it somehow reveals that wind and approaching rain. Interesting how the little nooks and crannies out of sight can put one into a totally calm environment out of harms way...

Kia ora Robb. Yes, I've often taken advantage of those tiny sheltered areas to pull on a jacket or have a quick snack. Usually I just keep going to get lower down where it's less exposed, either on the Pohangina side or on Knights Track.

It's great country up there, Zhoen.

I love the way the focus of this evocative image settles on that dark, still, reflective pool. As if it's waiting for something....
