Tokeawa Stream, running low

After a spell of dry weather, Tokeawa Stream is running low. Apparently October was unusually dry, but the endless rain still seems strong in my memory.

What a contrast with your other recent photos of this stream so full of water! I agree... I still think of the weather as being very wet recently, but I guess that was mainly in September. Interestingly, last weekend I took a wee tiki-tour on the east - down Porangahau way - and I was surprised by how wet the area was travelling south-east from Waipukurau. So much wetland vegetation with so much water. I haven't been there before, but I can't imagine it is often quite so wet.

Lovely little rivulet.

The clarity of this stream, however low you may think it is running, is a balm to my spirit today ... as ever.

Kiwi Nomad, apparently the eastern side had far more rain than usual, so that tallies with what you saw. I love the coast down that way — well, much of it, particularly the parts the developers haven't ruined.

Zhoen, Tokeawa has a different feel compared to Teawaoteatua, partly because the bridge is so much lower, so you're closer to the stream itself. I love them both.

Barbara, it's amazing how so little water can create such strong feelings. But, if you think this is clear, you should see the Pohangina in its headwaters in the Ruahine after a few dry weeks. Actually, that's exactly what I want to do ;^)
