They seem so human, much of the time. After arriving at Kausani in the Indian Himalaya in late November 2006, I went for a wander. These rhesus macaques were abundant, and I hesitate to mention some of their other behaviours. Apparently once such incident inspired Paul McCartney to write Why Don't We Do It In the Road.

A beautiful photo, Pete. That look in her eyes is so expressive. Is it a little weariness? I thought of this photo today when I listened to an interview with Charles Siebert who just published a book, Wauchulu Woods Accord, about chimpanzees who are in "retirement" homes after spending parts of their lives in some insane service to humans. I think it's their innate sensibilities, that hint of an interior complexity, that comes through those eyes and draws us to them.
Robin andrea, the way chimpanzees in particular have been treated by humans appals me. Fortunately it's becoming much less acceptable to treat them as objects for our entertainment, but I'm still dismayed at the number of people who can laugh at the sight of chimpanzees dressed up and "performing". Moreover, as much as Siebert's book undoubtedly serves a good cause, I can't imagine I'd be able to read it.
Thanks for the thoughts.
aww he looks so sad and tired. but adorable at the same time, great animal shot, the trees decorate the background perfectly. good angle too. keep it up
Thanks D.V.A.
