North-east from Toka

At the tarns just below Toka trig we enjoyed the view, ate a few snacks, and tried to stay warm. Sometimes the cloud closed in, enveloping us in mist, but within a few minutes the view opened up again. Finally the cloud dispersed, lingering only further north along the range around the Oroua headwaters. None of us was in a hurry to begin the descent down Knights track, where we'd no longer be able to look down into the headwaters of the Pohangina. Even now, two days later, I miss that place.

Miss it you might, but I suspect it is indelibly burnt into your heart.

There's something about this photo and Elephant's Child's comment that feels like Shakespeare's Sonnet 46 to me. That constant tug between the heart and the body - and, yes, I know the heart is a part of the body, but this is Heart. This is Heart and your art gives us sight of it. (I love watching wind ruffle long grasses ;0)

EC, you're so right — not something I'll forget. Ever.

Barbara, thanks for drawing my attention to Sonnet 46 — totally apt. I'll remember it when I'm next there, watching the wind, er, ... not so much ruffle as flatten the snowgrass ;^)

A sacred place, with a door into Other.

I look at that and take a deep breath...

Zhoen, that's well said.

Kia ora Robb — Muir understood it very well indeed.
