Aerial at dusk, Huaraz

Huaraz, in Peru's Cordillera Blanca, was a highlight of my time in South America. The wonderful people I spent time with there — other travellers as well as locals — played a big part in that impression, but so did the Cordillera. Often the light in the evenings was nothing short of astonishing. This is the view from my rooftop.

That lilac light is luminous and presumably lasts only for a few moments?
I can't properly define the effect of the metal against the landscape, except to say that there is a radio aerial on the hills here which was a source of endless imaginative tales by and for your cousins when they were young. They called it 'The Iron Man' and as the light fell it took off, striding over the hills. Your will have to hop, only having one leg.

Sometimes, here, the light looks like that and I find it so difficult to capture it. It is the essence of ephemeral. Lovely image.

RR, that light actually lasts for a while, but not in the same form; it changes continuously. Love the story of the Iron Man. Maybe this aerial's his walking pole?

Robin, you're lucky to live somewhere with light like this. I get it here sometimes, but when I was in Huaraz I was struck by how consistently it appeared. It seemed to suffuse everything.

"Ephemeral" - yes. Ruins of the Moment. aha!

Maureen, ephemeral but recurring (like the error Blogger keeps giving me when I try to post comments).

Pete, I was very, very frustrated with Blogger. Wordpress works much better for me. I have grown to despise "Google". -Maureen

Maureen, I tried Wordpress but the restriction to predefined templates in the free version didn't suit me. I'd have lost much of what gives my blogs their character.
