Evening robber fly

A couple of evenings ago I took the camera for a slow walk—an amble, really. Shortly before the sun dipped below the western hills, I saw this robber fly (Saropogon sp., probably S. clarkii). I didn't have the macro lens with me, but in any case I was more interested in a photograph different from the usual close-up.

  1. Fly doing fly version of ambling, seems to me.

  2. Zhoen, it does look like that, but in fact it was mostly perching, with an occasional shuffle.

  3. I keep coming back to this photo and trying to articulate my thoughts about it. I love the sharp focus on the fly while the background has the texture of rippling, muted silk. But best of all it gives us almost a perspective of scale from the fly's point of view: that's a long way to climb.

  4. Thanks Lisa. Those are very much in line with my own thoughts about this photograph.

Constructive criticism is welcomed (I particularly appreciate thoughts on what you like and don't like), but please keep it courteous.
