At dawn on the shores of Lake Malawi in 2007, I looked out towards Mozambique, somewhere out of sight on the far side of the lake. A few fishermen tried their luck far out on the water in their tiny dugout canoes; a pair of hammerkops preened at the water's edge; a big, well fed dog padded along the sand. I'd have been happy to stay there indefinitely.

Growing up on the Great Lakes, this has a familiar feel.
ReplyDeleteI can hear this one and it 'sounds' wonderful. So peaceful. Stunning. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteZhoen — except for the possibility of bilharzia, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, yes, I found the soft rush of small waves wonderfully calming.
Indeed. Although algae blooms could cause some problems, mostly that was near cities with sewage dumping. I merely referred to the clouds and quality of light. Lakes are not oceans.
ReplyDeleteZhoen, we have similar problems with algal blooms in some of our New Zealand lakes. The cause is usually related to run-off from surrounding farms, and that problem's getting worse.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful photo, Pete. The quality of light is so lovely. Makes me wish all morning would begin like this.
ReplyDeleteThanks Robin. Maybe I'd eventually get tired of these mornings, but I think it'd take a while.
