Kia ora Pete, A determined looking fellow. When Charlie and I stayed at Top Maropea not long ago we were visited by several Tui throughout the afternoon. Had been awhile since I had seen them up there. I also can't help but smile, even if somewhat sadly, that as a result of the predator proof fence near Wellie the Tui population boomed a few years ago. So people began ringing the council to complain about the noisy dawn chorus ans what was going to be done about it! Robb
Kia ora Robb. I remember that news items about the noisy dawn chorus near Zealandia. I find it incomprehensible. Maybe the council should have responded by offering to set up bird scarers — you know, the sort that make a huge bang every few minutes ;-)
Zhoen, I see what you mean :-) In fact, when they're feeding here they seem to completely ignore me, as if I'm not worth noticing, let alone judging. In this case, that's a great feeling.

I feel a bit judged by this fellow.

What a gorgeous image of a gorgeous new to me bird!
ReplyDeleteThank you Brenda. They're remarkable mimics, too — not only can they mimic human speech, they can sound like an individual human.
