The descent into the head of Pinnacle Creek is straightforward if you pick the right route. Here, Laura and Jono lead the way in near-perfect conditions for tramping. Although hard to discern on this small version of the photograph, Waterfall hut can be seen as a tiny point of light near the centre of the photograph, just to the left of the scree near what appears to be the end of the creek (the hut is actually on the far side of the main river, the Kawhatau).
[This morning I published a new post on Pohanginapete. Check it out if you're curious.]

Kia ora Pete,
ReplyDeleteReally enjoying this series. Keeping my heart inspired as I work through a busy patch. John and I picked a not so good route just below Mangaweka on the wrong creek down to the river. A real battle. Stoked you had such awesome conditions.
Kia ora Robb. Yes, I imagine any other route would be nerve-wracking. Good visibility makes a huge difference.
ReplyDeleteAwesome set of photos Pete. This one is my favourite. I enjoyed this section down Pinnacle creek as it was good to get out of wind and the hut isn't too far off.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jono, and I agree — I particularly like the section from here to the hut. It's very beatuiful, particularly in these conditions, and pretty easy going.
