Ti kouka flowering

I love this time of year — the days lengthening and warming; birds fledging; the ti kouka and so many other native plants flowering.

  1. I try to love this time of year; the days shortening, the cold and darkness increasing, the birds escaping south or fattening themselves up, the compost bin filling up with dead flowers......do I lack conviction?

  2. Stunning skies. I do love it when the days draw in, and some blessed cool arrives. Summer? Not so much. I tend to turn into a troll and only come out at night - when I have photos of other people's beauty to revel in.

  3. It's seems to be a particularly prolific year for the local Cordylines, for some reason.

  4. RR, I try to love that time of year too, but I find it a struggle. I understand any lack of conviction ;^)

EC, our summers are much more comfortable than yours!

Andrew, I think that every year, but you might have a point. They're certainly spectacular at the moment.

  5. The ti kouka are definitely up to some thing this year - at least here in Whanganui. I have never seen anything like it, they're more flower than tree! And I agree, it is a lovely time of year.

  6. Anne-Marie, it's not just the ti kouka, either. Among other things, the pipiwharauroa seem to be particularly active this year — they've been calling flat out for weeks now. (I even saw two on the power lines this morning.)

  7. Yes - I've even heard them here in town! It's the first time I've heard them in an urban area.

Constructive criticism is welcomed (I particularly appreciate thoughts on what you like and don't like), but please keep it courteous.
