Rain coming

At the top of the No. 1 Line track the steam from the Lapsang Souchong rose almost straight up into the cold air. Through binoculars I could clearly see the grey silhouette of the South Island on the horizon, far beyond Kapiti Island. I looked for deer, saw none, sipped tea, wrote a little, brewed another cup. The heavily overcast sky began to dissolve as rain approached.

I photographed the view north from the car as I started back down the Line.

  1. Dramatic and beautiful. And the Lapsang would have helped too.

  2. Thank you, EC. The Lapsang suited the place perfectly.

  3. That's a lot of sheep. For some reason the first thing they reminded me of was maggots on a corpse. Not very flattering, I know, but that's what was injected into my brain.

  4. Monotone suited that image perfectly, Pete. Colour would have detracted.

  5. Zhoen, Miguel — yes, they're sheep. That analogy's not uncommon, Miguel, and in some situations it's not inappropriate. Still they're far less damaging to the environment than cattle. The enormous growth of dairying in New Zealand might be good in the short to medium term for NZ's economy, but it's been disastrous for our rivers, lakes and even parts of our coasts.

Avus, thank you. The colours were distinctly unappealing.

Constructive criticism is welcomed (I particularly appreciate thoughts on what you like and don't like), but please keep it courteous.
