Piwakawaka

The common English name for piwakawaka (Rhipidura fuliginosa) is "fantail". Easy to see why.

  1. This little creature is too good to be true.
I love the way you have found the echoing colours in the background (or maybe he/she found them?).

  3. Thank you, RR. The background was something I noticed at the time, but with these never-still-for-long birds, it really is a case of seizing the moment.

Zhoen, he (she?) does look like a bit of a poser, eh?

  4. I love these little birds (and like Anne-Marie am enjoying the theme). I have fond memories of walking through the bush and being followed by one of these. I can only guess that I was kicking up tiny bugs from the forest floor for it to feast on. Beautifully photographed. Ive never (until recently) had a camera quick enough or with a good zoom to be able to photograph one. I will be trying when we are back in NZ over Xmas though :)

  5. Thanks Leonie. A camera with no shutter lag is essential for these wee birds. They seem particularly abundant and fearless this winter — let's trust that'll still be the case when you get here :^)

Constructive criticism is welcomed (I particularly appreciate thoughts on what you like and don't like), but please keep it courteous.
