Pihoihoi, New Zealand pipit

Always looking for a tasty morsel

Most mornings when we walked the track to the beach at Flounder Bay we'd meet these delightful little birds. Pihoihoi (New Zealand pipits; Anthus novaeseelandiae novaeseelandiae) seem relatively unafraid of humans; in fact, on one occasion we stood still as one made its way with that characteristic, tail-wagging walk, almost to our feet.

  1. Kia ora Pete,
He (She) almost looks contemplative. And with what is going on around with our government I can understand why.
    Cheers,
    Robb

  3. Matt. 6: 26: Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Well, this particular forlorn feathered fella may be thinking, "I sure hope Jesus is right, 'cause times sure are a'changing."

  4. Kia ora Robb. Aargh! Don't get me started on this Government, particularly its approach to caring for our environment — which seems to consist in trying to extract as much money as possible from whatever can be exploited, regardless of its true value. The attitude seems to be "get the economy growing as fast as possible and everything will fall into place". Concepts like intrinsic value and the critical importance of ecosystem services seem utterly beyond their comprehension.

Paul: nice one :^) And, actually, I hope so too, because our Government certainly isn't looking after them — quite the opposite, in fact. But thanks for the smile.

Constructive criticism is welcomed (I particularly appreciate thoughts on what you like and don't like), but please keep it courteous.
