The evening after we'd visited these villagers I was able to get the photos printed at a local photographer's shop in Bhuj. Parbat, our guide, delivered them the following day.
I bet people were thrilled to get them, Pete. They're so good, so expressive of each person's character. You could easily hold an exhibition of your portraits.
Thank you, Lesley. Apparently the photos' reception was quite something — I kind of wish I'd been there, but would probably have been embarrassed about the fuss. Thanks for the vote of confidence, too. An exhibition would be wonderful, but the cost of printing, framing and all the ancillary bits and pieces would be prohibitive.
Yes, the enormous cost of mounting an exhibition crossed my mind, too. I wonder if there's a sponsor out there in the Indian community? The Indian High Commission??? You have a wonderful series there, which we've been enjoying since you first began posting about your travels. It would be great to see these portraits as prints, gathered together in one place. It's a pity they can't be seen more widely than they are at present.

ReplyDeleteThere is no greater gift than to be truly seen. You will be remembered there for generations.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Zhoen. What I most hope is that the photos will recall good memories of people they show, by their children and grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteLesley, that's a good thought. I'll keep it in mind and think about possible sponsors.
