Pourangaki catchment, Ruahine range

Rain cloud over the central Ruahine, December 2007. This is where the snowgrass meets the bush; from here it's a steep descent to the delightful Pourangaki hut.

  1. Kia ora Pete,
What a lovely spot, one which immediately struck me as familiar. I suspect that same spot may be under a bit of snow at the moment.
    Cheers,

  2. Kia ora Robb. Yeah, I love this spot — in good weather it's nice and warm, if it's foul, the bush is handy for shelter, and in any weather it has a lovely sense of altitude. You're probably right about the snow, although this nor'wester might be melting it fast. But oh, it'd be good to be at Pourangaki hut now.
