Back street in Rishikesh

Rishikesh cowMuch of Rishikesh can seem like every stereotype of India: crowded, rowdy and cruddy. But stereotypes are generalisations and always have exceptions, and here, only a few minutes walk from that stereotype, one can find places like this. Although, it always pays to watch where one walks (someone didn't — possibly me).

Update: There's a new post on my main blog (Pohanginapete).

  1. I've always loved the lines that cattle make.. out line -wise, all those lovely angles and curves. This is a beautiful perspective of a cow aswell. I love the atmosphere in this picture, it's very peaceful, everyone out for a sunday stroll after dinner... :-)

  2. I saw this story about a kea, and thought of your photos of these bright birds.

  3. Watercats, I found the kind of serenity you recognise here to be more common than one might expect in India. However, I did have to look for it — sometimes hard — and I also had plenty of good luck.
This cow seemed healthier than many, too.

Zhoen, thanks for that link. I liked the victim's suggestion that the kea was probably using his passport "for fraudulent claims". Given the intelligence of kea, he just might be onto something.

  4. Pictures, words. Some times, they're self-sufficient; other times, they make a masterpiece together.

  5. Ely, the relationship between words and pictures can be difficult — in fact, more often than not they compete. I'm fascinated when I find photos with text in the kind of relationship where the two not just complement each other, but create something greater. Thanks for the thought :^)

  6. Rishikesh is a nice place to stay at - especially compared to Haridwar...I dunno why - mebbe coz of my sensibilities as an Indian having seen a lot of such scenes - the snap doesnt seem too great to me - just my opinion ofc.

Constructive criticism is welcomed (I particularly appreciate thoughts on what you like and don't like), but please keep it courteous.
