Musicians' jam session at The Celtic

Jamming at The Celtic
Each Tuesday evening the musicians gather at The Celtic. I hadn't been there for a long time, so I was surprised — and pleased — to see so many playing. It's all unplugged, too, so we who weren't playing could hold conversations without shouting. Although the place looks relatively empty, we had a good crowd; behind me were a couple of dozen people, and the smokers, of course, were all outside.

Update: I forgot to mention that this was at ISO 3200. Also, you can view a couple more photos on the latest post on PohanginaPete.

  1. Looks so warm and inviting. I love the expression on the guy at the bar.

  3. Great shot -- I'm itching to join the party! And 3200, wow. Lots of detail for that speed, nicely done.

  4. Nice Pete,
    makes me nearly homesick. ;-)
I can see one smoker at the bar though. Will see you there...one (Tues)day!
The Celtic seems to be a time hole. Nothing changed and while you there time doesn't seem to exist there neither.
Wish you a nice change of the calender year! Say hi!

  5. Kia ora Pete,
Awesome shot. Brings back memories. I recognize that head in the front! I feel like a Guiness.
    Cheers,

  6. Zhoen, the guy at the bar is a great friend. Mind you, so are quite a few of the people there!

Michael, a 20D. A bit of careful processing can work wonders, but the most important thing is to get a good exposure to start with, to avoid having to lighten the shadow areas. That's when the noise really starts to blossom. I wouldn't try for a big print from this, but it still shows just what can be done. The results from something like the new 5D or the Nikon D700 must be mind-blowing.

Emma, the music's stunning — these people are as good as anything I've heard on any international album. And, on that score, apparently there's an album on the way.

Schwelmo! Great to hear from you! Yeah, you're right about the smoker at the bar — but he does only smoke outside ;^) You're right about time standing still at The Celtic, except in one respect — we miss you! Hope to see you some time (soon).

Robb, you'd be right about the owner of that head! Must get together for a Guinness (or something) sometime soon.
