Lance above Greenlaw Creek

Good to sit down at last
As evening and the nor'wester approached Terry, Lance and I reconnoitred the ridge below our camp, trying to find a route down to Greenlaw Creek. We were tired after a long day, much of it exposed to the vicious wind, and we welcomed the chance to sit and appreciate the view down the Waimakariri.  Mid January 2005.

The last time I saw Lance he looked just as tired ... only not in such a spectacular landscape!

This landscape looks very much like the start of the second Lord Of The Rings movie, where Frodo and Sam capture Gollum and persuade him to show them the way to Mordor. Beautiful but forbidding.

It really is a surreal landscape. And this this case made more odd by the cartoonish clothes. I'm sure they are chosen for practicality, but green, orange, blue and stripey legs... He is a vision.

Okay, done. Thanks.

Anne-Marie, don't let that look fool you — Lance is exceptionally fit. I guess his apparent weariness says a lot about how hard that day was.

Zhoen, you've missed the blue and yellow fleece top tied around his waist... I guess either the gear was cheap or he wanted to be found if he got lost ;^)

Emma, you're welcome ;^)
